An air compressor inlet valve, also called an intake valve, acts as a gatekeeper to control the amount of air entering the compression

chamber,regulating the compressor's capacity and efficiency. It opens during the suction stroke and  closes during  the  compression

stroke, allowing orrestricting airflow based on the pressure difference inside and outside  the  chamber. By  modulating   airflow, inlet 

valves also help manage motorload and ensure proper oil flow for airend lubrication. 
How it Works
Suction Stroke: As the piston moves down (in a reciprocating compressor) or the rotor turns  (in a screw compressor) ,  the  pressure 

inside thechamber drops. This pressure difference causes the inlet valve to open, allowing atmospheric air to enter. 
Compression Stroke: When the piston moves up or the rotors turn in the opposite direction, the pressure inside thechamber increases

, closingthe inlet valve. 
Unloading: During the unloading phase, the inlet valve closes to prevent air from entering the compressor. This reduces the load on the

motor,allowing it to run without any load. 
Loading: During the loading phase, the inlet valve opens to allow air into the compressor.

Airflow Regulation: The primary function is to control the volume of air that enters the compressor. 
Efficiency and Performance: It directly impacts the compressor's capacity and power consumption. 
Motor Load Management: By controlling air intake, it helps manage the load on the compressor's motor. 
Lubrication: It ensures sufficient oil flow is available to lubricate the airend components. 
Types
Reed Valves: A common type made of flexible metal strips (reeds) that open and close in response to pressure

differentials. 
Feather Valves: Used in reciprocating compressors, these consist of a valve seat with a port and a flexible steel

"feather" that acts as the inletvalve, opening and closing to control air flow. 
Maintenance
Inlet Filter: An air inlet filter should always be installed at the intake to prevent contaminants from entering the system, which can cause

pressuredrops and reduce efficiency.

A: The G thread is cylindrical and does not seal itself, requiring additional gaskets to prevent leakage.
